A Chance To Change

Eagles Nest student Buff Backus, 14, feeds the horses in the field behind the Eagles Nest horse farm, 11641 Alspach Road, during summer school. The Eagles Nest is a working horse farm in Canal Winchester giving 9 through 18-year-olds who have a history of drug abuse or have depleted all possibilities for traditional classroom instruction a chance to finish school and learn the trade of running a horse farm. Students who attend the school have either been ordered to by a judge or enrolled by their parents. Backus, who is a resident of Grove City, was sent to the farm by his adoptive parents after he had numerous drug related problems.
